Update

A lot of you have been wondering when I will be coming back.  I am taking a total of about 6 weeks off.  This is my 3rd week.  I will be back the middle of February. 

A note again on your comments- It should not be a competition for how many comments are posted.  Many people are posting several comments a day and not putting much thought into what they are writing.  You should probably not be posting more than 1 comment a day.  Take some time to think through what you are going to write.  I mentioned this in my last post and have seen improvement from some people, but not everyone.

Hello Kids!

I wanted to let you know that I have enjoyed reading your comments even though I haven't been able to respond to them.  Annika and I are doing good.  Our time together is going by way too fast!  I've included a picture of her and Gavin.  He is starting to appreciate his little sister more and more every day. :)  I'm going to wait a little while to bring Annika in until some of the sicknesses clear from the school.  I don't want her getting sick!

I'd like to challenge each of you in your blog posts.  Here are a couple things I'm noticing:
1)  You are using a lot of exclamation points (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
2)  There are a lot of repeat comments.
3) There are a lot of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.
I want you to try and start writing more thoughtful comments that show your thinking and creativity.  OK?

There's a New Addition!!

Hello class!  I wanted to introduce you to the newest member of my family.  Annika Lynn Freiberg was born December 30, 2010 at 6:34 pm.  She weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces and was 21 inches long.  She's super cute and I am loving her to pieces!

Gavin turned 2 yesterday.  He is saying new words all the time and makes his mommy very proud.

I hope you all enjoyed your break.  Please remember to follow expectations for Mrs. Seltman!  I will try and bring Annika in sometime to meet all of you.

Snow Expectations

Please review these snow/ winter expectations with your child.  Students go outside when it is below 10 degrees or below 0 degrees windchill.

·     Wear Boots, snow pants, jackets, mittens/gloves, and hats.

·     If winter gear is forgotten, stay on the blacktop and stay clear of deep snow.

·     Leave snow on the ground.

·     Slide down the hill on your bottom. 

·     Snow can be used to build snowmen and snow forts.

·     Be respectful of snow forts and snowmen already built!

·     Walk around the ice – It will be slippery!

·     Finish all reports with the adult on duty.

·     Change your play according to the weather.

·     Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

·     Use equipment and materials as taught in Recess Rodeo.

·     Play games and display good sportsmanship.

·     Take care of equipment and property.

·     Use kind words.

·     Follow the adult's directions.

Fairy Tales

In Anthology, the theme is "That's Amazing."  We are studying different forms of "amazing stories."  In the first story, we are learning about fairy tales.  You can tell your child about different fairy tales you know.
¨Are a kind of FOLKTALE

¨Tale includes the use of magic.

¨Might include: fairies, giants, and impossible tasks

¨At the end, everyone “lives happily ever after.”

Chris Van Allsburg

Chris Van Allsburg is the author or our current Anthology story, The Stranger.  He has written several well-known books.  Some examples are shown below.  You could check some of these out and read them with your child to do some comparing/contrasting between his different works.
